He has one daughter from a previous marriage, Aysha. * His parents were actors and often touring, so Rutger and his three sisters were raised by a nanny. * Rutger is color-blind. * HIs first ambition was to be a sailor, but his color-blindness made that impossible. * Rutger was a rebel as a young man. He ran away at age 15, after being in constant trouble in school. * After being away from home for a a year, he returned and joined night classes, which he later failed. He enrolled in drama classes, but was expelled for poor attendance. * At one time, he was a member of the Dutch Navy. |

| Opinion Rutger Hauer's onscreen villainy over the years has been unforgettably graphic -- from gouging out the eyes of his creator to leaving a severed human finger on an unsuspecting victim's plate of french fries. The Dutch-born actor is one of Hollywood's most mesmerizing bad guys. But to him it's the media that have too often been the villains. "I have other parts I've played and they're enjoyable too," he says with a hint of resignation. "It's just that the PR on my bad guys keeps coming back at me. In a way I get typecast by the press." |
